Messy Church

4.00 – 5.30pm on Sunday 10th December

Messy Church is a growing phenomenon. From its first beginnings in a church near Portsmouth in 2004, there are now Messy Churches all over the UK and in over 30 other countries around the world! We’re going to  have a go ourselves, and start up our own Messy Church based at St Herbert’s, Braithwaite.

The label ‘Messy Church’ is not just a description of some of the kinds of things that go on that are quite messy; things like hand printing with paint and decorating biscuits with gooey icing. Not everyone enjoys getting messy so it is not obligatory – there will be plenty of other things that aren’t messy at all!

The name ‘Messy Church’ also recognises that we live ‘messy’ lives. Things don’t always go how we’d like; often we feel disorganized and out of control. So if that’s you – do come along.

Messy Church is for all ages, not just for children, (in fact children must be accompanied). So come on your own, come as a family, come with your friends and neighbours.

At Messy Church we’ll have a theme for the day and start with activities that relate to that theme. Then we’ll have a ‘Celebration Time’ with songs, bible story and prayer activities. Messy Church will finish with everyone sharing a meal together.

We’re going to hold Messy Church on the second Sunday in the month from 4.00 – 5.30pm and the next one will be on Sunday 10th November. There were nearly 40 people of all ages taking part in November – it was great fun. Why not come along and join us in December?
