Who we are

We are the Parish of Thornthwaite cum Braithwaite with Newlands and the vicar is Rev Judith Ashurst.

We are a community of people following the way of Jesus

‘Are we nearly there yet?’ We’ve probably all said it on a long journey, perhaps to a new and exciting destination. What answer did you get?

Well the answer now is that the journey will take as long as life itself, however long that is. We are on a journey following Jesus and trying to live live by his example.

The example of Jesus is above all one of compassion, of love, for all people and all of creation. Our purpose is to serve Jesus and share God’s love with all. We seek to care for each other, our community, our environment and the wider world.

Our values summarise who we hope to be.

In the Community

God cares about the whole world and so do we. We are church through the week as much as on Sunday. Some of the many things we get involved in are these:

We have close links with Braithwaite School and a number of us serve on the governing body.

We work closely with other churches in Keswick as part of the Keswick Mission Community and Churches Together in Keswick. We have close links with Crosthwaite Church.

What’s Happening

The regular activities in the Parish include:

Sunday worship. We gather for worship at 10.15 each Sunday at one of our churches.

See below for the normal pattern of where we meet. See the page What’s On for our calendar of events and also the latest news on the home page to check details of location and timing for all our activities.

Community Coffee. Once a month on a Thursday we offer coffee, biscuits and chat from 10.30-12.00. It’s a popular chance to get together. Everyone is very welcome.

Sunday Lunch. Once a month we share Sunday lunch at Braithwaite church hall. Jesus showed the importance of eating together and we like to follow his example. All are welcome, but to help is plan let us know if you are coming.

Small Groups. We meet as a discipleship and Bible study group most Fridays at 10.30. It’s a chance to learn together and support each other. If you want to know more contact us via Get in Touch, or just come along.

Prayer. We believe in the power and importance of prayer. We pray for our those we know in particular need, our community, and the wider world. Our churches are open for prayer and give you the opportunity to share your requests for prayer.
